Western Canada is a world leader in several areas required to, one day, mine asteroids, such as autonomous exploration, sensor/AI-based sorting technology, water management, and mining in remote and harsh environments.
Focusing on industry relationships and our intimate understanding of the economic landscape, Peter Lucas’ plan is to lead a group of thought leaders and industry experts to tackle the barriers to space-mining. This forum will examine these barriers and co-create potential solutions and avenues of research to fill the gaps.
In the meantime, space-aligned technological development will create interim commercial products that improve Saskatchewan’s competitiveness in the mining sector by increasing efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of exploiting precious metals and other minerals. It will also spur investment and employ under-utilized talent resulting from generally poor market conditions. Each advancement along the path to space mining is expected to create short term value.
